How does this affect literacy?

I first came across this TEDtalk on Dean Shareski's blog here. He makes some incredible points, which is why you should go read his post.

My question is, in light of this new information, how does this affect how we teach literacy?

  1. Hey Joe, my fear is that this is less about literacy and more about control. Although the two, in this case, may have a symbiotic relationship.

    Thanks for sharing this.

  2. Thanks for sharing - valuable information in teaching kids how to do searches on the internet. Kids usually click on the first item on the google list without thinking. We already know that the advertizing that finances the free internet service is personalized , now the information we receive. We need to be more specific with our searches. WE are in control , the information we receive depends on our use of the web , not somebody else's agenda. It just means that educators need to help kids ask good questions while making internet searches - as the saying goes - a good question is half the answer.
