Most people understand that success is messy.
And so is learning.
Yet, adults can be pit against one another when they try and figure out how to best teach children that learning and success are messy.
While it may seem counterintuitive to suggest that we should not evaluate and judge students while they are still learning, this is precisely what the research has been showing us.

The real challenge isn't to just agree that success is messy.
That's too easy.
The real challenge is to see how some of the things we have always done in school are actually working against our best intentions.
