Standardization is stifling

Because fair isn't always equal, we can have high standards without standardization. We don't all need to be doing the same thing the same way to be successful. For me, this picture is the definitive reason why it's important to remember that all children have unique needs and thus need to be treated as an individual.

A system smothered in standardization has convinced some that they need permission to personalize learning for kids. Look at that little girl - should we need permission to supply her those legs? Should that man need permission to run with her? Standardization is about meeting the system's needs, even if it means ignoring an individual's needs.

Standardization alienates and marginalizes the people who need us the most. Personalization and differentiation promotes diversity. In short, standardization is dehumanizing.

We are all different and we are all better for it.

Diversity makes us stronger.
